Short Bio

Marni Spencer-Devlin is an author, artist, and entrepreneur whose life and work explore what it means to live authentically. After overcoming addiction, homelessness, and a life-threatening illness—and building a multimillion-dollar marketing firm—she brings an extraordinary depth of experience to that question.

Her book, The Iceberg Principles, explores the difference between a life that looks successful and one that feels deeply fulfilling. Through her books and sculptural mixed-media art, she invites people to discover their particular nature, talents, passions, and deeply held standards—and create a life that feels more fully their own.

Marni divides her time between California’s Sequoia National Forest, where she has her studio and gallery, and Umbria, Italy, with her partner, Pat.

Long Bio

Marni Spencer-Devlin is an artist and author whose life embodies resilience, reinvention, and a fierce commitment to authenticity. After surviving abuse, addiction, homelessness, and prison, she rebuilt her life and founded odcm marketing, a multimillion-dollar direct mail advertising firm with seventy employees.

Then a life-threatening diagnosis brought her hard-earned success to a standstill. It stripped away the roles and achievements that had defined her and prompted a deeper question: Who was she beneath everything she had survived and everything she had accomplished? Her search for an answer set her on a path toward radical authenticity—and became the foundation of her creative work.

Marni is the author of six books, including the memoirs Crawling Into the Light, Phoenix, and Marni: A Story of Survival. These candid accounts trace her journey through adversity and rebuilding, bringing readers close to both the struggle to survive and the courage required to live on her own terms.

Her latest book, The Iceberg Principles—Your Inner Architecture or Why Success Is Not Enough, explores the difference between a life that looks successful and one that feels deeply fulfilling. Blending scientific ideas with lived experience, it invites readers to discover their Blueprint: the particular nature, talents, passions, and deeply held standards that make them who they are. The List Method—The Science-Based Way to Find the Love of Your Life brings that same emphasis on self-understanding to finding a loving partnership.

As an artist, Marni creates large-scale sculptural mixed-media works that explore texture, light, and dimension. Working in California and at her Italian studio, Campocavallo, she creates art intended to awaken something within the viewer and reconnect them with joy. She has been invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale and has an upcoming show at Artifact Gallery in New York City.

Her books and art are expressions of one ongoing inquiry: what becomes possible when we stop performing and begin living as ourselves.

Marni divides her time between California’s Sequoia National Forest and Umbria, Italy, with her partner, Pat Hines.
