Everyone has stuff that they are good at. The trouble is that we usually don’t value those things that come to us easily. If it’s too easy we think it must be mundane and commonplace. “Oh that – it’s nothing! Doesn’t everyone know how to do that?”

But what if there is a reason we have those talents? What if they are the reason you exist – to share and let them shine?

The difference between the winners of this world and the rest of us is that they are doing the things at which they are best; the things they are born to do. That’s how come they shine so brightly. The rest of us are often just trying to squeeze ourselves into the existing structures whether we fit in or not.

In order to shine we have to figure out where we belong and what makes us tick. We have to discover our own personal blueprint for our talents and strengths.

We must decode our spiritual DNA.

We know that we have physical DNA. It’s the code for our physical characteristics; it describes the way we look and our physical abilities.

In the same vein we have spiritual DNA, which encompasses our invisible characteristics – our gifts, talents, capacities, propensities, likes and dislikes. The spiritual DNA contains the code for the tools of our destiny, the things we are born to do – the reason we exist.

We would never give somebody up with a job for which they are not physically suited. For example, I am a girl. I’m pretty athletic, in fairly good shape but still; nobody would give me job as a professional football player.

Sometimes it’s not quite as obvious but it makes just as little sense to give a job to somebody that doesn’t match their invisible qualities. No matter how hard we try, we will never excel. Languishing in a job for which we are not suited is horrible. We are unhappy, bored, and ineffective. Eventually it will affect even our health.

We cannot fight Mother Nature. We can’t squeeze ourselves into the wrong box without creating brutal pressure. This is what causes depression, which is the result of suppressing our natural qualities. It causes pain, which lies at the root cause for all addictions. Whether food, alcohol, drugs and even cigarettes – addictions begin as an attempt to alleviate inner pain. (Of course the addictive behavior then causes a whole new set of problems, which adds more pain and that becomes a vicious cycle.)

The only way to transcend those problems and stop the pain is to decode the spiritual DNA.  This is not an option; it is a necessity if we expect to find a shred of happiness in life.

The answers are not found in our physical self; they are found in our Consciousness.

We must learn to make contact with the invisible part of us. It is that part that contains the blueprint for our gifts and talents, and the things about which we are truly passionate. The way to  connect to our inner self is through meditation.

Don’t worry; meditation doesn’t have to be a big production. We don’t have to become a Buddha under the Bodhi tree to do it. But we do need to make a priority to take some time each day to check in and listen for that inner voice. This is not drudgery; it honors the most important part of us and that brings great relief. Not only does the inner pain go away, joy rises from within when discord is replaced with harmony and alignment.

When we figure out what makes us tick we take our place in the natural order of things. We play the part we are born to play and we shine! We are empowered. Our juices flow. We become fearless and passionate and we can’t help but go for our dreams because it feels so good. Ultimately, this is the only way to find lasting happiness.

There are many ways to meditate. To find out more or to learn an easy technique go to my website, www.MarniSpencerDevlin.com for a free download.
